بغداد: از آغاز تا قرن ۱۴

کتاب بغداد: از آغاز تا قرن ۱۴ شامل دست‌نامه‌ای جامع است که تمام موضوعات مرتبط با تاریخ مجموعه شهری بغداد در عراق را، از مبادی‌اش که ریشه در بین‌النهرین اواخر باستان دارد تا دوران بعد از حمله مغولان در سال ۱۲۵۸ در بر می‌گیرد. برخلاف ذهنیت رایجی که تاسیس این شهر در سال ۷۶۲ و در یک خلأ تصور می‌کند و معتقد است بغداد پس از تجربه یک دوره شکوفاییتاریخ  در «عصر طلایی» تخیلی در اوایل دوران عباسیان، نهایتا در سال ۹۰۰ وارد یک دوره افول شد و سرانجام با حمله اقوام وحشی از سمت شرق در سال ۱۲۵۸ کاملا فروپاشید، این کتاب بر پیوستگی زندگی شهری بغداد تاکید دارد و نشان می‌دهد که چگونه تقدیر ابدی این شهر به عنوان جایگاه خلیفه و یک قطب فرهنگی بر تحولات آن تاثیر گذاشته است.
